The Center is accredited by the Maryland State Department of Education and has been in operation for 45 years serving over 7,000 families and the community. The current pastor of Union Baptist Church is Reverend Alvin C. Hathaway, Sr.
Being a parent is one of the hardest jobs in the world. Positive Connections helps to improve how parents relate to their children and how their children respond to and respect them as parents. It promotes child growth and development and positive self-esteem and provides opportunities to look at “expectations” for ourselves and our loved ones, and to network with each other to provide support because of the stress and difficult situations that parenting brings.
Parents are given the tools to writing effective resumes and cover letters in their search for employment. Job placement assistance is available for families that are seeking employment or career training opportunities.
Educational resources for first-time home buyers with credit, budgeting and mortgage loan counseling to obtain affordable mortgages through lending partnerships. We also assist families in completing applications for low-income rental housing.
The program will pay for up to 6 college credits to parents who are pursuing a college education and are active volunteers in the program. Assistance in submitting a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is provided to families who seek additional college funding.
